Child’s Trajectory

The Science Behind
Our Mission

CDC-Kaiser Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study discovered the link between childhood trauma and adult onset of chronic diseases, mental illness, and the adoption of health-risk behavior. Hundreds of research papers based on the ACE Study have been published. We know from this study that childhood relationships are the most important contributors to early development. You can learn more about TBRI and ACEs at child.tcu.edu and ACEsTooHigh.com.

What can we do to help children who have experienced this early trauma? Trust Based Relational Interventions (TBRI) is an evidence-based training for caregivers of children from hard places that goes beyond simply being trauma-informed to equipping caregivers with practical strategies to help disarm fear and build trust. Developed at the TCU Institute of Child Development, TBRI is a set of connecting, correcting, and empowering principles that align with Biblical teaching. When communities are empowered with these research-backed tools to wrap around children in a “Care Collaborative,” they are able to help families heal and thrive.
